Just cant help commenting on this. Just back from the office and watching CNN IBN..
Women's billed voted and passed in Rajya Sabha. Mamata Banarjee abstains.Sonia says, fulfilled my husband's dream. Her advice to the corespondent, "More women should leave journalism and join politics." The focus shifts to the newsroom, to Rajdeep and Suhasini. Suhasini haider sayz..NO WAY..
The move may be promising but I cant help being skeptical. And it is not about women or the 33%. It's about reservation as a means of empowerment. 50 years of reservations and it spawned off mover evil than good. Politicized, mis-utilized and exploited by a handful, it hardly met its intentions. The same is most likely to happen with the women reservations.
The bigger fear, the way I see it is that we don't create more Jayalalithas and Mayawatis. To me a Madhu Koda is acceptable but a Jayalalitha is not. Such cases do more damage to our social fabric than we realize. I am afraid, instead of women making politics and more humane or cleaner, will become exactly like their male counterparts.
It's like "The ring"...it just brings out the evil in you.
It's just the magnitude that differs..Worst case, you will turn into a Smeagol/Gollum (like Jayalalitha or Mayawati), a complete slave to the power. Event the best scenario doesn't look good..We don't need more Uma bharati (mad for power) or a Vasundahara Raje (who started having hallucinations of being a goddess) or even a Mamata Banarjee (who makes sure Bengal continues to be deprived of industry and peace).
I would have loved to hear the views of some of my friends on this. I do miss Bangalore..
