After several days of junk food, I decided enough was enough. So I finally moved into the kitchen and my roomate meanwhile executed what he called "risk mitigation measures" . And what we had was this...
KPC fried chicken
Chicken pop corn
Alu-beans fry
Onions and green chillies
with Pakhala.. now that is a Odiya delicacy..
Absolutely great combination.. An East meets West story with a happy ending..
No matter where you go, you keep trying to make things as close to home as possible. I normally try to avoid this and take up the local cuisine, no matter whether it is within India (cuisine does vary to a great extent in different parts of india) or outside. I enjoyed the kolhapuri and wada pav during my pune/mumbai days, and then I moved on to become one of the greatest fans of the Andhra thali and Nandini. Wangi bhat, bisibele bhat is as close to my heart as anything else. Sandwitches and burgers became my staple food during my short stint in US. Unlike many people who go there for short trips I made it a point to go for mexican and local cusine and I liked it very much. Today you will find all the stuff required for making a burger packed in my refrigerator.. mayonese, mustard, salamis, lettuce, patties.. everything and I still love to make one myself rather than get it from McD's
But my heart always bleeds for that simple food I have grown up with..So whenever something like this happen, I am really very very happy.Home is where you are, there is no point in making your stay out of your country any worse... if you feel like it go for it, enjoy the food you like.
looks yumm!!
ReplyDeletelove those simple bowls and utensils, home-cooked food, makes my mouth water...!!! :)
