hacking life

A couple of days ago, I was talking to a gentleman who has been involved in the making and sustenance of a Content Management System that we hoped to use. Being an in-house development, the organization was clearly divided into believers and skeptics and I was trying to understand its capabilities in order to make up my mind. This gentleman was excited to present what I clearly saw he considered as his baby and at the same time, quite candid in accepting its limitations in response to my questions. But he would quite often add to his confession, “But … we developed a hack for it… now the business is happy because their requirement is met.”

At the end of the discussion I asked him, “This is a product you helped build and have owned for 10 years. And you have no qualms in saying you have developed hacks for issues."

He said “Well no, a hack for me is an intelligent way of doing things, under known constraints.”

I no doubt agree with this gentleman.

Each of us probably does that with our lives. I believe we should. Every small change that makes our life better, easier, less stressful is a hack.. And you are the proud owner of it.

Not every hack has to be necessarily related to software or computer or technology. But still if technology can help you hack your life’s issues, so be it. I would like to share this site with people who haven’t already stumbled upon it. http://www.lifehack.org/
