Kungfu Panda

Well, it seems I am going to get some free publicity this year (2008). How???

This is how...

Brought to you by Dreamworks, I am quite sure it wont be long before a big marketing blitz is going to bring this character into your living rooms. And since I share my surname with this one…I am going to get some free questions each time I introduce myself to anyone outside my home state. And as things stand today, I would probably be in US when this one releases (June 2008).

That led me to do a little bit of search..

This is the page for Kungfu Panda in Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kung_Fu_Panda

And I wanted to find out if the disambiguation page at least mentions my surname. Was glad to find that here.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panda_%28disambiguation%29 Mentioned under biography, it says "A Brahmin pundit who acts as a religious guide, for example at Hindu death ceremonies, as in the city Varanasi."

Sad since it is not just the only action mentioned in the example that Pandas do. They belong to the priestly class who carry out worship of Gods at the temples, as well as for all the rituals a hindu goes through from birth to death.

The surname Panda is mostly found in the state of Orissa in India. Considered the previeleged caretakers of the Puri Jagannath temple, they are known to be high class brahmins.

Guess I need to gather some material and update wikipedia..
