Books I have read on recommendation..
Not that I remember all but some of the memorable ones are here…
Autobiography of a Yogi – Swami Yoganand Saraswati the founder of Kriya Yog ashrams.
On the suggestion of a gentleman whom I did not know…while I was rummaging through the self development section in the Ramakrishna Mission Library, Bhubaneswar. Some time in 97-98.
The book is definitely one you should not miss. Could be your initiation to a whole new world. Even if you just don’t believe in the mystical India and it’s gurus and paths of self enrichment. Just a year latter, I was to join an Engineering College which was just 2kms from a Kriya Yoga ashram in Puri (East Cost of India), close to the place he got initiated into the path by his guru. One of the first ashrams before the decided to take the whole philosophy to the west. It’s a different thing I never got myself to get initiated into Kriya Yoga inspite of using those visits in some of the most difficult times of my life.
What I liked about his philosophy was you don’t have to go to the Himalayas to be a Yogi…I would suggest you read it to get some insight into the mystical India and may be pick a few fundaz..
A line that has stuck with me all these years “The teacher arrives when the student is ready..”
The return of Merlin – Deepak Chopra
I never knew he wrote fiction. On one of my trips to Pune in route to those numerous interviews and SSBs I was giving before finally persuaded to join engineering. Handed out by my big brother from his shelves (something I really envy…I am gonna have my own library) so that I don’t keep pestering him. Some time in 98-99.
What a book…The wizard, king Arthur..the Chamelot and a whole new way to look at things. Kind of book I would love to read again…cover to cover.
What has stuck to me all these years… “There are several threads of realities that run parallel. Your actions chose which of these realities you want to live through…”
That was the Wizard teaching his young apprentice. I was to come across similar thoughts from one of my favourite authors ‘Richard Bach’ years latter….but for me the idea is what I picked up from this book.
Well seems like it is not as easy to list them down as I thought. There are still 8 years and may be half a dozen books to cover. Some time again I will…
But here is a list of some of the books .. I can remember right now..
- The Fountain Head
- The Little Prince
- Creative Visualizations
- The Alchemist
- Jonathon Livingstone Seagull
- Teusdays with Moorie
- Papilon
+ The Witch of Portobello by Paulo Coelho
