Trip to Hogenakkal

The destination was not fixed till 9 in the evening of the previous day. The route was not clear till 11 in the night. But somehow we fixed things up and decided to leave by 7 in the morning. And by the time we left it was 8 am.

Hogenakkal is a beautiful tourist attraction on the border of Karnataka and Tamilnadu. Some 150 kms off bangalore it is a must see. Though i would take you through the experience you should really visit this place to know what i am talking about. There are a series of small waterfalls falling into a central ravine from both sides. And the skilled boatmen will ensure that you have an experience you dont forget.
Starting from Bangalore we were supposed to take a right turn after Dharmpuri but we took a detour shortly after we passed Hossur. And immediately we could feel that life has slowed down.

Some wonderfull scenes from rural Karnataka made the drive memorable. There was an realisation that rural India is the same wheher it is Karnataka, Maharashtra or Orissa.

Soon we realized that the detour meant that we were approaching Dharmapuri from the opposite direction and we had long entered Tamilnadu.. When we finally reached Hogenakkal, the filled parking place made me fear it wont be much fun specially because the place seemed too commercialized and i normally prefer untouched nature.

I was right to the extent that it was highly commerciallized but they have managed to keep some part of the experience intact. Also i noted that the commercialization had made the place accessible to all kinds of people belonging to all ages. So it was clearly different from a trekking experience where you find your own way and enjoy nature inspite of the discomfort. You can imagine the kind of commerciallization from the fact that the boatman made up a bargain with us for the 5hour trip for more that 1000bucks. whatever we were there for a good time and he was promising us just that.

The most attractive part is the round boat/cannoe in which you make the trip. We were told that this is where ROJA was shot. And if u remember the scenes were breathtaking.

He took us into the waterfalls and we had a hell of time out there...

Will return to complete the post.. multi-tasking affects at least one of the taks..
