Rab ne bana di jodi

Once again a first day first show, thanks to my geo-spatial advantage and the boredom of these Eid holidays here in Dubai.

For those of you in India, waiting to see it released tomorrow: Don't expect too much. A DDLJ comes once in a decade and this is not the film of the decade. Shahrukh seems to have grown up along with me and from a heady, 'for the heck of it' youthful romance like DDLJ to a more realistic topic relevant to my age bracket, namely "the perils of arranged marriage". (beyond the sad Kabhie Alvida na Kehna)

The movie is absolutely watchable and has enough moments you would enjoy. Shahrukh does manage to give some wonderful light moments and Vinay pathak does a great side kick act. The new girl Anouskha is definitely the girl next door. She looks so ordinary that she was probably choosen especially for that fact.

Aditya Chopra manages to draw up a convulated plot involving as you might expect some moral dilemma and then untangles the mess into a happy ending. The fact is that you might end up having strong feelings with the way the the climax unfolds. Not a big percentage of population can be termed misogynist but only a few of you sane people should end up sympathizing with the the dumb charachter called Surinder Shahni (played by Shahrukh).

Rest better left unsaid.... Do go, and watch this movie, but don't worry if you did not get a ticket this weekend, it is not really unmissable...if that's the right word :)
