Christmas gift : pass it on

I was just going through a post byRoshan a fellow blogger..this one is a reaction to his thought.

I remember Mr. Sabu, my history teacher in class 6. A wonderful story teller he was (no wonder, i still remember what he taught us). Around Christmas that year he got us to listen to a nice story. A story of Santa appearing before a kid and teaching him some precious lessons of love and kindness. I sat all dreamy eyed and motivated to do something good... may be like that kid in 'Pass it on' who believed we can change the world..

Sadly today we don't. May be its the years of exposure to human greed, selfishness and hypocrisy or just our inability to see beyond the small setback each time we tried to do something good, we rarely do an act of kindness and compassion.

A few days more before we end this year and I was thinking if I did anything like that.. May be I did, maybe not but I soon realized my thoughts had shifted to if I had received any. Well.. I did. There are probably many. But right now I just want to thank Marc and his family for being so good to me when I was feeling all lonely and home sick in an alien country. Especially when they had no need to be sharing their time with me..

And I was not even gracious enough to send them a Merry Chirstmas card.. So here's a wish going out from my quota with God (if I do have any quota).. A great new year to these wonderful people.

I don't think every one gets a chance to do a superhuman act but a small gesture of human understanding, empathy and kindness is enough to make a difference. It may not always be possible to return it back to the people who gave it to you but I wish to spread each act of kindness and gesture of love received. That sounds like a great resolution for 2009 and for all time after that..
