Chandrayaan, reached its destined orbit, 100 kms off moon and India test firing Shaurya are the kind of news that somehow makes me feel good. May be it is just co-incidence but the timing is just right. When half the world is withdrawing itself into a shell with nothing but ominous news about financial meltdown gobbling up not only companies but threatening countries all together, today's news from India was a joy.
The prime minister is parleying with the president of USA, while the nation's media declares India's test firing of an enhanced neuclear capable missile being tested. Uncanny timing I would say. I remember the late 90's, a time when I was mad about getting into the defence services and followed each development on Prithvi and Agni with the zeal of an Indian cricket fan. Every time there was a China sponsored Hatf or Ghaznavi declared after an Agni, I felt like losing a test series lead. But I guess, today I feel like having taken a good enough lead.. Old rivaliry apart, to the whole world, this a message from a different India, much more confident, emphatic and self assured.
My friend says Chandrayan is a waste. But it is a message to the world and it was required. 'Tashan' hi sahi...
An pyramid or a colleseum doesnt really seem to make grear sense.. may be enough people in its time called it a waste but are still marks of developed civilizations. A race of people not too engrossed in the business of living. It marks an abundance of resources and brain, although in some way aimed at its shameless display.
All said and done, a little cynic voice in me says beware... Keep an eye on Machiavellian tactics tried on you. At most difficult times, cunning leaders can resort to uncanny tactics to keep the focus of their subjects elsewhere.. Only time will say..
