Shantaram-A must read

I have been reading Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts. Certainly a must read.

The first thing that came to my mind as i started this book was Papilon. I thought i would never again get my hands on anything as gripping and exciting. The best part was i had always enjoyed the journeys with authors and charachters that had taken me to exotic countries and settings. But Shantaram stumped me with the description of a different world within my own country. The settings are familiar, the places are known and the charachters strike a chord within my heart.

The characters are very much alive...may be because he is narating a true story and does a magnificient work at that. There are lines that stick to you because you find they are giving shape to your thoughts. Others you realize is the truth put forth in such a witty manner that the lines are worth noting down and treasuring. I have made up my mind to put them in a separate post here.
